Battle of the Bands,
Palmerston North Heat 3

The Royal, Palmerston North, Manawatu

We are pleased to announce that we are taking part in “The Battle of the Bands” contest.  We have chosen to play in the Palmerston North heat as Sheldon is away for the others in Wellington.

It’s soo exciting, we are going to put together a set that will rock both the audience and the judges.

A Chilly Night in Carterton

Heart of Arts is going to be an awesome public art space in Carterton.  Corrinne Oliver did an awesome job organising the launch.  All the people were there.  It was really busy and a lovely spread and some fine beer by Regent 58 brewery was to be had.  Dave was playing on an old horse cart and was somewhat elevated from the rest of the band.  We got lots of people stop and listen as we were on the highway in the high street of Carterton.  We had an awesome time and we even got the die hards dancing.  Thanks to Diane Sutherland for the photos.

Also playing with us was Three Mile Brass.  There were some awesome flash mobs.  One for the Powhiri and one with some dancers.  It all made for a very exciting evening of creativity.

Reverend Peytons Big Damn Band Masterton

Reverend Peytons Big Damn Band Masterton

It was great fun to meet with Breezy, Ben and The Rev, also known as The Reverend Peyton’s Big Damn Band.  We had one heck of a night and we will remember our first support slot with them for a long time to come.

Our Spank set opened energetically and closed suddenly.  It was great to get in front of a new audience of people that weren’t here just to see us.

The Big Damn Band was superb, we really enjoyed watching their show and it is well trying to catch one of their shows if they are ever in New Zealand again. Pictures and video to follow…

Waitangi Day
Images and Setlist

The day started dull but soon brightened up, just as we were about to go on to the stage.  We followed some really talented kids onto the stage who were a hard act to follow.  Noise Production’s very own Toby Mills was on sound for the day and he did an awesome job making us sound really awesome.

We had some great feedback from the crowd and we had an awesome time.  We hope to get invited back again next year.

Kia ora Masterton, thanks for having us.

Spank with Free The Cats Bodega 26 March 2016

Spank with Free The Cats Bodega 26 March 2016

On 26 March 2016 (Easter Saturday) Spank will be heading over the hill to Wellington. This will be our first Wellington gig and the first time we have played at Bodega. We are pleased to be playing some exciting music with our friends and excited about playing at such an awesome venue in the capital city.

Free The Cats has an awesome bluesy sound that has been described as the sound of Jim Morrison lighting the match that sets Tom Waits on fire. They are no strangers to Bodega and we’re sure they will show us the ropes.

We are also delighted to announce that DJ Steppa D will be playing a selection of post-punk tunes to fill in the gaps. You might also see him featuring in one of the bands if you look out for him!

Thanks to Fuzzbox Designs for the awesome poster which features Grumpy Cat in front of the Beehive parliament building in Wellington. We hope the Cats won’t be too grumpy! We will enjoy playing with them in the capital city.

Entry by Koha or gold coin donation on the door.

Come down and enjoy the show!
