UK Band Yossarian at Spank invites

UK Band Yossarian at Spank invites

Yossarian stop off at Carterton to play Spank invites at Heart of Arts on December 10th.  Having listened to their sound (I have to admit I am a bit hooked) I’d say they they have a sort of 80’s vibe going on, with the lead singer having a very distinctive almost Human League-esque quality about his vocals.

Being expats, well two of us, and then there’s Dave who has ping-ponged between NZ and the UK, we are quite excited to be welcoming a band from the UK to our Spank invites series.  Sheldon is also looking forward to it, but he’s a full blooded kiwi not that that matters at all.

We have our usual line up of sponsors.  Many thanks to Peha Audio, Fuzzbox Designs, Lamb Peters Print and Thatsus Music house for their continued support and not forgetting the marvellous Corrinne Oliver and the Trustees of Toi Wairarapa for providing a briliant venue.

I know the band can’t wait to meet Sam and his band mates.  See you on 10th December.

We’re Writing New Stuff

We’re Writing New Stuff

Crazy Life By Spank

Here’s a taster of some new stuff we are writing.  Crazy Life has lots of energy and is about mainstream media and about how it tells us how to live and has an impact on our life.

We have moved our practices to Thatsus Music House in Masterton on Friday nights (heads up to Shae for providing a first class practice venue) and we are now writing again for our new EP. We will be recording in November at Tsunami Sound Studios and we are very excited to have 5 songs that we are working on.

The songs we are currently working on are “Crazy Life”, “Song for the Lost Things”, “Simple Pleasures” (aka The Tourism Song or Wairarapa Song – cheers Dave), a funky tune called “Make a Stand” and finally the most recent “Having a Bad Day”.

We can’t wait to get back into the studio to record and mix these fantastic tunes.

Slap-up and Noblest launches at Carterton’s best Art Space

Our new EP, Slap-up and Noblest had a successful launch at Heart of Arts in Carterton.  There was a modest turn out but the ambience of the venue was amazing and everyone spent the night with a smile on their faces.  We had the soulful and bluesy Free the Cats over to support our band, they are amazing, funny and talented people who are a joy to be around.

We have a few plans for the Heart of Arts space and hope to be able to put on monthly gigs, inviting other interesting bands to play with us in an evening entitled Spank invites which will be supported by Fuzzbox Designs Ltd and Thatsus Music House.  Watch this space.

Battle of the Bands Heat 3 – The Royal Palmerston North

The  band made the long trip over to Palmerston North for Battle of the Bands, the day after Sheldon returned from his Australian holiday.  We had been on a three week long hiatus and so were ready to rock, albeit somewhat out of practice.  We did it though and we were glad as we made it through to the Regional Final on 8th July, being pipped at the post for the first place by another Wairarapa band (and long time friends) The Dead Zephyrs.

Roll on 8th July, we will be somewhat more practiced and will have released our EP.  Got to also say great work to our friends Free the Cats who made it through to the semi finals in Wellington.  Well done guys and see you at our EP release on 25th June.
