21st January – Spank invites… (To be Announced) aka Spank EP Release Party

This is going to be a spectacular EP Release Party with cake and everything.  Spank release their EP Kimberley Road, recorded on 19th November at Tsunami Sound Studios in Levin.  This EP is the best yet and you will be able to buy a limited release physical version at the gig.  We might even give a few away if you are lucky.

We are awaiting confirmation of a very special local band who are an ideal party addition, I can’t wait to tell you who it is but for now just believe that this event will be special.

One Month until we go into the Studio

One Month until we go into the Studio

It’s one month today until we go into the studio to record our new EP.  After the last recording session, where we recorded Slap-up and Noblest, we decided that, as we are busy people with jobs, kids, pets, hobbies, etc that we would endeavour to do two EP’s (Extended Play Singles – mini albums) a year.  Our goal was to write 5 new songs to go onto that recording and we have now achieved that.  We go to Tsunami Sound Studios to record on 19th November 2016.  The EP has yet to be named.

The songs are again a multitude of genres to delight everyone and have subject matter from standing up to negative people, to enjoying the outdoors in Wairarapa.

The great thing about being in a band is that the more you play together the more you learn about each other.  Dave has been with the band a year now and we are really becoming a great creative entity.  The last practice had us all leaving Thatsus Music House fist pumping the air and feeling really great about the new material.  So much so that we are putting it into our gig at the weekend at Carterton Rugby Club and The Land Girl Cafe in Pirinoa.

Playing the material live will get it on point for the recording, playing live is like working it into three practices.  It may be rough around the edges but you will be guaranteed to love it.  From the hard out rock/punk roots of Crazy Life to the mellow jazziness of Having a Bad day it’s bound to be entertaining.  Can’t wait to see you all at the rugby club and hope you love our new stuff.  We shall see.

Spank invites The Dead Zephyrs

Spank invites The Dead Zephyrs

Spank invites:  22nd October
Carterton Rugby Club

This is promising to be an awesome night, with Spank invites moving to the Carterton Rugby Club. Big ups to them for having us and they have the required amount of toilets, so thats all good, we are planning to have a bar but that could all change as we already know.  Still the music will be good.

The Dead Zephyrs

This blues punk rock trio are fresh off the back of gaining a place in the Battle of the Bands national final at the Kings Arms in Auckland and are full of zing and energy.  Popular with the Masterton locals they have a following which they are promising to bring down to enjoy the fun. The music is lively, tight and exciting.

Spank

As always we bring our own blend of irony, brit-pop, mellow cornet and post punk together and blend it all in a rather delicious fusion of catchy melodies and foot tapping tunes.  We love supporting our local bands and this time we are are enjoying having the Zephyrs headline for us, as they have been our friends for a long time and in another incarnation (Roumengoux) they opened for us at our launch gig at King Street Live on October 24th 2014 along with This Little Orchestra.

This night is going to be one not to forget so make sure you come out, bring your dancing shoes and as many people as you can.

Many thanks to Lamb Peters Print, Peha Audio, Fuzzbox Designs, Heart of Arts and Thatsus Music House for the help and support.

Support local music, keep the rhythm going.

UK Band Yossarian at Spank invites

UK Band Yossarian at Spank invites

Yossarian stop off at Carterton to play Spank invites at Heart of Arts on December 10th.  Having listened to their sound (I have to admit I am a bit hooked) I’d say they they have a sort of 80’s vibe going on, with the lead singer having a very distinctive almost Human League-esque quality about his vocals.

Being expats, well two of us, and then there’s Dave who has ping-ponged between NZ and the UK, we are quite excited to be welcoming a band from the UK to our Spank invites series.  Sheldon is also looking forward to it, but he’s a full blooded kiwi not that that matters at all.

We have our usual line up of sponsors.  Many thanks to Peha Audio, Fuzzbox Designs, Lamb Peters Print and Thatsus Music house for their continued support and not forgetting the marvellous Corrinne Oliver and the Trustees of Toi Wairarapa for providing a briliant venue.

I know the band can’t wait to meet Sam and his band mates.  See you on 10th December.
